Elderly man maintains his innocence as child rape case begins

Being charged with a sex crime is very serious. Prosecutors typically look to get the maximum penalties for those convicted with sex crimes, especially cases that involve children. Anyone in Fairfield County facing these kinds of charges should always take them very seriously.

The trial of an elderly man who is facing child rape charges is underway as jury selection has begun. In addition to the three counts of rape of child with force, the 72-year-old man is also facing three counts of child rape aggravated by age difference and six counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under age 14. However, the man has continued to maintain his innocence and has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

According to court documents the alleged assaults occurred between 2008 and 2011. The alleged victim was seven when she says the assaults began. If convicted of any of the child rape aggravated by age difference charges he will face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years. According to reports, the alleged victim knew the man, but there were no reports on how they knew each other.

The man in this case is facing serious charges, which could lead to him spending the rest of his life in prison. Even if he received the lightest sentence possible, at his age it could still mean he’ll spend the remainder of his life behind bars. It is very important for anyone in this kind of predicament to have the right legal representation to help him or her fight the charges.
